Our horsemeat
Horsemeat has high nutritional values and is a source of many microelements. A lot of Poles are not a big fans of horsemeat. One of the main reason is their emotional relation to these animals. In the past horsemeat was sold in so called “shambles” and it was the meat of worse quality. Probably that is why Polce are prejudiced to horsemeat and associate it as defective meat. Meat is a rich source of protein and its aminoacid content is well balanced with humans physiological needs. Parameters of horsemeat are similar to other kinds of meat. It contains 70% of water, 20% of protein and about 4 %of fat. Its nutritional value is higher than in beef, pork or lamb. Meat provides not only iron but also is a source of magnesium which influences muscle and nervous system of humans. It contains phosphorus, zinc, copper, calcium,potassium and sodium. Horsemeat is also rich in group B vitamins responsible for nervous system and metabolism. Horsemeat has a little bit sweat taste but a lot of people think that horsemeat tartar is the best. Raw horsemeat is a delicacy in Japan. It is also used for production of cold cuts like for example sausages and salami. According to FAO horsemeat is popular in Italy, Belgium and France. Almost the whole Polish production of this meat is exported to these countries (mainly to Italy).
